When did going to Texas become heading east?
Yeehaw, I'm heading to Austin, TX, home of live music, good food, and, next week only, the greatest assembly of geeks y'all have ever seen.
Oh yes, I am heading to my second annual SXSW. But east? Am I really heading east to get there? I suppose I am getting whats comin' to me, as last year I benefited from the time change on my way into town. Though I did lose a suitcase for a few days...

If you're not coming this year and any of this sounds remotely cool to you, I beg you, for all that is good an holy, come next year!

Okay. I first heard about South-by-Southwest this past summer and I was under the impression it was primarily about music. Of course, the first person to mention it to me was working in Austin as a programmer.Nevertheless, I can't seem to escape it. So, instead, I'll just listen to their audio stream.Have fun. And don't catch anything... like being Republican.
John: SXSW was originally a music fest, a place where bands who didn't have any major label support could go to catch a break. Since then, it's become more and more corporate, attracting already-established acts (though the newcomers are still there, too - just not in the numbers there used to be).
And now it's branched out to movies and tech. Go fig....
Sam: have a kick-butt time out there! And remember: east is all relative. You could say that you're heading west by 22 time zones, rather than east by two.
Bush is always right, aachoo....
I think I've caught something and I haven't even left town yet. It must be all that Steven Colbert exposure.
Rudi: You are right that SXSW is getting more corporate. For the record, Interactive and Film were added back in '94.
