What to do?

| | Comments (2)

Over the last week many friends and family have asked what we should do and want in the coming months. Now that we have taken some time to heal, we can now return to the fight with an energy not before seen.

As we look to the local elections of 2005 and the impending national elections in 2006 and 2008 we must assess our own positions and the direction of our movements and political party.

Who will lead the Democrats in the next four years? How should opposition position itself in the Congress?

These questions and other plague our minds and I will try to focus on specific parts of these issues in the coming days.

sam, excellent points. i think my biggest issue is the democrats need to focus on a candidate that they are excited to run (like Dean for a while) not a candidate that just isn't bush or guliani (sp?). smiles,

and maybe we need to focus on actually having a clear, positive vision for the future, rather than simply what rhetoric it takes to win votes.
the most demoralizing thing for me was how much it was focused on winning, and how little i felt connected with a positive vision for a future. the republicans, ridiculously enough, seem to have a monopoly on 'moral values,' masculinity, and whoa, a sort of working class populism. and the Democrats seem to be playing 'me too!' why not call them out on it? lay out what our values are--as a nation--and how we can fulfill them. for me, democratic values (and even 'moral values') are generally progressive, leaning to Democratic, and at least middle-to-liberal.
