VP Debate: Word for Word

Although Gwen Ifill chastised Edwards for using John Kerry's name while answering an inanely worded question, it turns out that Edwards used the words "John Kerry" a total of 36 times in the debate. Compared to Cheney's infrequent references to George Bush, 10 times, this reveals something about the attitude of the Vice Presidential candidates towards the top of their tickets.

Cheney also made a number of statements that could suggest that he is actually calling his own shots on important policy matters.

As we watch tonight's debate, it will be helpful to remember that one of these candidates is running to be President and the other to be a public stooge while his Veep runs the show behind his back.
