How things change

Four years ago the Presidential race neared the end looking like an easy win for the challenger from Texas. On election day, America chose to stay the course by promoting the Vice President to the top office.

In the controversy that followed the pre-election and election day polls were called into question for their methodology and generous interpretation of tight data.

This year, we enter the final weekend will polls unsure about next Tuesday's outcome. Each voter knows that they could be the one to swing the election for their candidate.

Yet one thing that Kerry has on his side that we learned in 2000 is that the polls might just be a little too generous to Republican turnout assumptions. Gallup has been called into question for underestimating African-American and other minority turnout, essential for a Kerry victory.

New voters, a full 10 million more than four years ago can dramatically change the dynamic of the race. Even if Republican poll watchers challenge the credentials of half this mass, Kerry can still eke out a victory.

Now is no time to be certain of victory, but it is a time to be optimistic and work hard.

Let's make this weekend count and hope for good news Tuesday night.

Not to be a pessimist, but IF Bush does win, can Rob and I come to DC and stay with you and Julie to protest at the inauguration?
