Watching The Bat

| | Comments (1)

Yesterday morning the Howard Dean campaign brought out the bat. Those who closely follow the campaign know this to mean that serious fund raising is going to happen. Back in August, Dean for America used the bat to raise over one million dollars in less than four days. With the September to Remember drawing to a close and eyes starting to turn to Clark, the Dean campaign is taking a big risk with potentially huge payoffs.

They brought out five bats at once shooting for $5 million dollars in 10 tens. The campaign is already set to shatter the quarterly record previously set by Bill Clinton but if this succeeds will cement Dean's position as the front-runner. None of the of the other top tier candidates are anywhere near this kind of money from this many people.

Right now the first bat is half filled at $492,212.16 from 7,892 contributors. All eyes are watching to see if they can do the impossible before the end of the month.

One clarification I'd like to make on this entry. Dean would be the front-runner ONLY in campaign funds.

A CNN poll released today said that even with 20-some percent of the respondants not recognizing Clark's name, Clark beat Bush overall 49% - 46%. Sure its far too early for this to be statistically meaningful, but that's still impressive.

BTW, I believe that Clark got some $700k in 3 days (not counting my impending donation).

Sam, I mentioned this to you in our private conversations and I'm ready to start making it public. I honestly don't think that Dean is electable against Bush. This 'comment' is getting long so I'll save my reasons for when the topic becomes more engulfing, allowing for more detailed comments.

Just remember, my soul is more pure and worth more that the 'alls of 'ya. I'm riding on that for credibility, so listen up.

In tune with the pulse of the people,
Jeremy
