G-ross Behavior
Despite the fact that no weapons of mass destruction were found in Iraq, our long standing alliances around the world are in shambles, and US soldiers are being protested throughout Iraq and the Middle East the Bush White House decided that today is as good a time as any to release their re-election plan, as reported in the ">New York Times.
Feeling no compunction to respect the memory of the victims, they plan to begin the formal campaign near the third anniversary of September 11, 2001 preceded by a 200 million dollar lead-up TV advertising orgy. Hosted in New York City, this would be the latest Republican Convention in the parties history and would leave the general election as a sprint to November. So short an election would shelter Bush from attack on the issues that matter and allow to the Republicans to build a campaign based on "national security and Mr. Bush's role in combating terrorism." Democrats would, because of timing, seem disrespectful if they criticized the President on September 11th. Perhaps they should honor Bush's activity that day by running and hiding in an undisclosed location for a few hours.
Most interesting about this choice of date is the fact that the Bush campaign would be able to spend from their 330 plus million dollar war chest up to the convention and then accept the 75 million dollars of public funds for the general election. The Democratic candidate, on the other hand, must fund-raise now and then stretch that same 75 million from his convention in July to November. This allows Bush play by the letter of the law and reveal the gross problems with campaign finance reform as it currently stands. On top of all of this money, Bush has been travelling to key campaign states - New Hampshire, Ohio, and Missouri most recently - on official White House visits thus not billable to his reelection campaign fund.
We shall see what the coming year brings. By then we will know who the Democratic contender is and whether Bush will be domestically vulnerable. Rove and Co. have already begun sniping at the major candidates calling Kerry haughty and saying that "He looks French." Edwards, on the other hand, gets to be slick and shallow. What a nice campaign this will be.

"He looks french"????????? How old are we here?
AM, I think it's like sam said: since Bush's "re-birth" as a "born again" christian, he himself is what, about 5 or 6? I mean, his campaign only started about that long ago (note the connection, oddly enough -can we say campaign tactic to appeal to the right, anyone?), so that must be the approximate age of our president. And that doesn't account for his administration, which should still have a few of them in diapers...
Therefore, in response to your question, I would be willing to guess that the approximate age of our president and his cronies ranges anywhere from 1-6 years old. Makes you take pride and find confidence in such an administration, doesn't it?
Maybe someone should make them start watching Sesame Street to learn a thing or two about relaing to people and how to share, among other things.
