Quick Post

This will be a quick post but I have much news to share so check back soon. I have a job at Americans United for Separation of Church and State and start work February 1. Julie and I found a great apartment at 1414 17th Street right in the heart of the Dupont Circle neighborhood. I will soon post picture of our trip in the Picture Archives. Julie and I are planning on going out when I finish my interim class to set up the apartment before she comes back to Bradley for her last semester. It is so exciting to be moving out to DC to live without thought of ever coming back to Peoria to live again. It is so frightening and exciting. When I was having my salary negotiation I was so overcome by nervousness that I couldn't bring myself to negotiate, I need to get over that intimidation before my first evaluation if I am to have hopes of improving my financial position!

Based on Jeremy's experience my intimidation isn't so rare. The only explanation I can really come up with is that I, at 22, cannot believe that people whose work I admire as much as Barry Lynn and Americans United would want to invite me to join them in their work. Right now is such a critical time for religious liberty in America I am deeply honored to be made a part of the struggle as a professional. I know I told Steve once but I think I ought to tell Barry that I heard of AU because he was the opening speaker of my Close Up trip in high school. Last night, Jeremy and I were talking about that trip; I remembered again seeing Barry speak and being so impressed to hear someone articulate a position so close to that of my family's dinner table conversations.

Life is good right now, so many things are falling nicely into place. During the next five months Julie will find a job in Washington to pay off her debts before grad school and we will start a new life together in DC. I am so excited!
